At first, the initial chapters of this novel left me hesitant and I wasn’t sure about this book. However, I soon discovered what I believe to be a connection between the writing style and the main character, Casey’s, own journey of self-discovery. As Casey shed her superficial persona, the narrative blossomed, reflecting her internal growth. Despite my reservations, I found myself drawn deeper into the tale, as each character, especially the legendary Granna, played a vital role in telling the Black family story. Hats off to McKnight for crafting a great story.
